β¦ Synopsis
Oxidative Trimerization of o-Dialkoxybenzenes to Hexaalkoxytriphenylenes: Molybdenum(V) Chloride as a Novel Reagent. -The title reaction proceeds efficiently with or without 0.2% acid catalyst. An increasing amount of H 2 SO 4 leads to partial dealkylation of hexaalkoxytriphenylenes, cf. product (III). MoCl 5 is also useful for the coupling of biphenyls with alkoxyphenol leading to monofunctionalized triphenylenes, e.g. (III), which are important precursors for the synthesis of discotic oligomers and polymers. -
