Oxidation of α-Hydroxysilanes by Lead Tetraacetate.
-Oxidation of α-hydroxysilanes with lead tetraacetate results in the formation of mixed acetyl-silyl acetals. This type of reaction also occurs with the quaternary α-silyl alcohol (IV) to give the acetal (V) which is further hydrolyzed to the acylsilane (VI). By contrast, similar treatment of monohydroxy alcohols leads to the formation of cyclic ethers. Ionic and radical-based mechanisms are discussed.
