✦ Synopsis

Orthophosphates and Diphosphates Containing Zinc and Copper and Zinc and Cobalt.

-Zn 2-x CoxP 2 O 7 and Zn 2-x CuxP 2 O 7 (x = 0.0, 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, and 2.0) are obtained by reaction of Zn 2 P 2 O 7 with Co 2 P 2 O 7 or Cu 2 P 2 O 7 for 24 h at 1000 β€’ C. Zn 3-x Cox(PO 4 ) 2 (x = 0.4-1.6) are formed at temperatures up to 950 β€’ C from Ξ²-Zn 3 (PO 4 ) 2 and Co 3 (PO 4 ) 2 and all exhibit the structure of Ξ³-Zn 3 (PO 4 ) 2 . The solid solutions of Zn 3-x Cux(PO 4 ) 2 , prepared from Zn 3 (PO 4 ) 2 and Cu 3 (PO 4 ) 2 (800-1020 β€’ C, up to 120 h), show more-complex behavior. At 1000 β€’ C (20-80 mol% Cu) a phase that is related to Cu 3 (PO 4 ) 2 predominates. At 850-950 β€’ C (20-33 mol% Cu) the solid solutions adopt the structure of graftonite. At 800-900 β€’ C (10-15 mol% Cu), the solid solutions exhibit a new, to the mineral sarcopside related structure. At β‰₯ 950 β€’ C (5-15 mol% Cu) solutions show the structure of Ξ²-Zn 3 (PO 4 ) 2 , whereas at 800-850 β€’ C (5 mol% Cu) the structure of Ξ³-Zn 3 (PO 4 ) 2 is observed. Attempts to synthesized Cu + ZnPO 4 and Cu + Cu 2+ Zn 3 (PO 4 ) 3 are failed. -(BAM-
