✦ Synopsis
Ring System of Approximate D 6h Symmetry in Ca 7 Mg 7.5±δ Si 14 .
-The title compound is an unusual Zintl phase with metallic conductivity that is expected to be highly anisotropic. Powder XRD shows a hexagonal structure (space group P6/mmm, Z = 1) that contains planar hexasilyl-hexasilacyclohexene anions, [Si 12 ] -(21±2δ) of D 6h symmetry besides isolated Si 4 4-anions. The planar ring system does not show aromacity, but contains approximately 1.75 double bonds that are equally delocalized.
