✦ Synopsis

The synthesis of the title optically active binaphthyl derivatives is presented and the usefulness of these substrates as chiral catalysts in the cyclopropanation and addition of Et2Zn to aldehydes is shown. Mechanistical aspects on the basis of NMR experiments are discussed in detail.
