✦ Synopsis

are synthesized by direct reaction between the elements in a carbon-coated silica-tube (vacuum, 1000 β€’ C, 48 h) followed by annealing at 700 β€’ C for 4 days. X-ray powder diffraction data confirm the space group Im3 for filled skutterudites. The CeyFe 4-x NixSb 12 compounds exhibit semiconducting behavior except for Ce 0.33 Fe 2.5 Ni 1.5 Sb 12 . The impossibility of a complete filling of the skutterudite structure is confirmed.
