✦ Synopsis
The new compounds Sr2Y2.67Sn3S12, Ca3La2Sn3S12, and Ca3Er2Sn3s12 are prepared from appropriate mixtures of CaS, SrS, La2S3, Er2S3, SnS2, Sn, S, La, or Y using KBr as fluxing agent (silica ampules, 950-1000 °C, 100-316 h). The new quaternary phases are characterized by single crystal XRD and UV/VIS diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. They crystallize isostructurally in the hexagonal space group P62m with Z = 1 (Eu5Zr3S12-type structure). The structure of Sr2Y2.67Sn3S12 contains ∞ 1 [Y3S(1)12/2S(2)3S(3)3] chains, which are connected into a three-dimensional framework by Sn atoms, with Sr atoms filling the channels. Ca3La2Sn3S12 has an optical band gap of 1.
