Neutron Powder Diffraction Study of the Dehydration of Zeolite N. -Zeolite N with the composition K 12 Al 10 Si 10 O 40 Cl 2 β’8H 2 O is pseudotetragonal with an EDI type structure. The orthorhombic cell shows the space group I222 with Z = 1 at 293 K. The powder neutron diffraction pattern are analyzed in the range 293-623 K and they show that the dehydration process between 373 and 623 K is connected with the rearrangement of the Cl and K atoms. The driving force for this process is probably the strive for acceptable coordination of the salt-like components. -(CHRISTENSEN, A.
