β¦ Synopsis
Na 2+x HgyC 60 : Post-Transition Metal Intercalation Chemistry of a C 60 Host.
-As first examples for intercalation of post-transition metals into a fullerene host, several Na 2+x HgyC 60 phases (x: 0.01; 0.08 Β‘ y Β‘ 0.24) are prepared by reaction of either Na 2 C 60 with excess Hg vapor (4 atm, 450 β’ C) or Na 5 Hg 2 with C 60 at temp. up to 450 β’ C and Hg pressures between 0.05 and 5 atm. According to the powder XRD data and Rietveld refinement, the compounds crystallize in the cubic space group Pa3 with Hg located at the center of the octahedral site and Na remaining predominantly on the tetrahedral site. The phase with x: 0.1, y: 0.17 exhibits nonmetallic behavior. The unchanged reactivity of Na 2+x HgyC 60 with NH 3 gives evidence for the uncharged nature of the mercury species. -(FOX,
