✦ Synopsis

N-Acylpyridinium Trifluoromethanesulfonates and Tetrafluoroborates: Shuttle Reagents for the Acylation of Enantiopure Secondary Alcohols.

-Easily available, stable N-acyl-4-benzylpyridinium salts (V) are found to be efficient reagents for the conversion of chiral alcohols such as (VI) and (VIII) to their esters (VII) and (IX). Alternatively, the salts can be generated in situ from the N-acyl dihydropyridines (III) and strong protic acids.
