✦ Synopsis
Morphology-Controlled Synthesis and Efficient Photocatalytic Performances of a New Promising Photocatalyst Sr0.25H1.5Ta2O6•H2O. -The title photocatalyst with high surface area is hydrothermally prepared from mixtures of Ta2O5•nH2O Sr(NO3)2, NaOH, and H2O (autoclave, 200 °C). The samples are characterized by powder XRD, XPS, TEM, ESR, UV/VIS diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, electrochemical measurements, and DFT calculations. They exhibit different morphologies from nanoplates to nanopolyhedra depending on the pH value of the synthesis solution. The material shows superior photocatalytic activity for water splitting to generate H2 and for degradation of benzene under UV light irradiation compared with TiO2.
