Molecular Structure and Reactions of 1,1'-Bi(acenaphthen-1-ylidene)-2,2'-dione. -The molecular structure of title compound (I) is investigated by X-ray crystallography and semi-empirical calculations. Its tetrasubstituted ene double bond displays unexpected propensity toward [4 + 2]cycloaddition with simple 1,3-dienes to furnish a range of novel polycyclic adducts.
