Microwave-Hydrothermal Synthesis of Nanophase Ferrites.

-Technologically important ferrites like ZnFe 2 O 4 , NiFe 2 O 4 , MnFe 2 O 4 , and CoFe 2 O 4 are prepared from metal nitrates at specific pH values. The process uses double-walled vessels that are transparent to microwaves and, hence, allow simultaneous hydrothermal treatment. Nanophase ferrites with high surface areas in the range of 72-247 m 2 /g are obtained at temp. as low as 164 • C.
