✦ Synopsis
Methyl N-(Benzylsulfonyl)oxamate as a Probable Intermediate in the Synthesis of 4-Hydroxy-5-phenyl-3(2H)-isothiazolone 1,1-Dioxide from Phenylmethanesulfamide and Dimethyl Oxalate in the Presence of Bases.
-The base-mediated formation of the title isothiazolone dioxide (III) from phenylmethanesulfamide (I) and oxalate (II) is apparently a two-stage process involving the formation of the linear oxamate (IV) followed by its cyclization. The heterocycle (III) forms a stable 1:1 complex with DMF.
