✦ Synopsis

Metalation of Nitroaromatics with in situ Electrophiles.

-The disadvantages of metalation of electron-deficient nitrobenzenes using lithium reagents are avoided by application of hindered sodium or potassium amide bases, e.g. NaN(Tms)2, in the reaction with various substituted nitrobenzenes of type (I). The intermediate metalated nitrobenzenes are trapped with TmsCl or Me3SnCl. The limitations of the generality of this method are discussed with a view to the inductive effects of substituents. -(BLACK, W.
