β¦ Synopsis
MCM-41 Materials as Catalysts for the Synthesis of Alkyl Fructosides.
-MCM-41 is an excellent catalyst for the alkylation of fructose (I) with short chain alcohols, e.g. (II), at the anomeric position. For long chain and fatty alcohols, e.g. (VI), yields are moderate but the alkyl fructopyranosides can be easily purified. The conversion increases when tBuOH is used as an inert solvent. When 1,2-dimethoxyethane is used as solvent the initial rate of the reaction is even higher but a rapid formation of difructosides also occurs. -
