✦ Synopsis

Manganese Catalyzed Asymmetric Oxidation of Alkanes to Optically Active Ketones Bearing Asymmetric Center at the α-Position. -Symmetrical alkanes (II) and (IV) are oxidized with iodosobenzene/4phenylpyridine-N-oxide in the presence of catalytic chiral (salen)Mn(III) complexes (I) providing optically active ketones (III) and (V) up to 70% e.e. The chiral indanone (V) can be converted to the cis-1-amino-2-indanol (VI), a key intermediate of anti HIV protease inhibitor and of chiral auxiliary. -(KOMIYA, N.;
