Magnetic Properties of LnAuSn Compounds.

-Polycrystalline samples of the compounds LnAuSn with Ln: Gd-Ho are prepared by arc melting of stoichiometric mixtures of the elements and subsequent annealing at 800 โ€ข C (vacuum, 4 d). Powder XRD results show that all samples except for ErAuSn have the hexagonal LiGaGe type structure. ErAuSn has the cubic MgAgAs type structure. Neutron diffraction and magnetometric data reveal that the compounds order antiferromagnetically at low temperatures. The magnetic moments are perpendicular to the hexagonal axis in TbAuSn and DyAuSn and parallel to this axis in HoAuSn.
