Lead Chains.

-Single crystals of K 3 Au 5 Pb are obtained by reaction of KN 3 with gold sponge and lead powder at 920 K. The compound crystallizes in a novel structure type, which can be described as a substitution variant of the MgCu 2 -type (space group Imma, Z = 4). The gold-lead partial structure consists of layers of 2 ∞[AuAu3/2] tetrahedra and 1 ∞[Pb2/2] zigzag chains with four-bonded lead atoms which are connected to a framework structure via Au-Pb contacts.
