Intramolecular Ketyl-Olefin Cyclization Mediated by Magnesium Metal. -Treatment of ketones tethered to a carbon-carbon multiple bond with magnesium in the presence of EtOH as proton source results in formation of cyclized products. The reaction proceeds via a ketyl radical and intramolecular addition to the olefinic or acetylenic bond.
