β¦ Synopsis
Insights into Photoluminescence Property and Photocatalytic Activity of Cubic and Rhombohedral ZnIn2S4. -ZnIn2S4 is synthesized by thermal sulfidation of a Zn-In mixed oxide precursor with dry H2S gas for 4 h at either 300 Β°C yielding cubic ZnIn2S4 or at 800 Β°C resulting in rhombohedral ZnIn2S4. The mixed oxide precursor is prepared by evaporation of an aqueous solution of Zn(NO3)2 and In(NO3)3 and subsequent heating of the residue at 500 Β°C for 2 h in flowing air. Under visible light irradiation, rhombohedral ZnIn2S4 catalyzes H2 evolution from aqueous Na2S/Na2SO3 solutions, whereas cubic ZnIn2S4 is not active for this reaction. This difference in photocatalytic activity is related to the number and lifetime of the photogenerated charges induced by different crystal structures. Photoluminescence spectroscopy reveals different dynamics of photogenerated carriers of ZnIn 2 S 4 with the crystal phase changing from cubic to rhombohedral. -(SHEN*,
