✦ Synopsis

Influence of ZrO2 Addition on the Crystallization of Yttrium Oxynitride Glasses to Y3Al5O12-Based Glass-Ceramics.

-The crystallization behavior of the title glasses with relatively low SiO2 content and with the potential for crystallization to yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG)based glass-ceramics and the influence of ZrO2 on the YAG crystallization are studied using DTA, XRD, and SEM techniques. Changes in the volume fraction of the crystalline phase at different heat treatment temperatures are monitored by Vickers hardness measurements. Addition of 6 wt.% ZrO2 to the oxynitride glass promotes the formation of γ-Y2Si2O7 at temp. ¡ 1300 • C and inhibits the crystallization of the YAG phase. At 1300-1350 . degree.C the YAG phase is the dominant phase of both ZrO2-containing and ZrO2-free glass ceramics. -(VOMACKA, P.;
