✦ Synopsis
Hypervalent Iodine(V)-Induced Asymmetric Oxidation of Sulfides to Sulfoxides Mediated by Reversed Micelles: Novel Nonmetallic Catalytic System.
-Aryl sulfides are oxidized with PhIO 2 in toluene/water (60:1) in the presence of catalytic amounts of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTA) and optically active diacylated tartaric acid (DBT) to give the sulfoxides in high yields and with moderate to good enantioselectivities. The solubilization and activation of PhIO 2 by catalytic amounts of both CTA and DBT is found to be indispensable for the enhancement of chemical and optical yields. The novel system avoids the overoxidation to sulfones. -(TOHMA, HIROFUMI;
