✦ Synopsis

Hydrotalcite-Catalyzed Epoxidation of Olefins Using Hydrogen Peroxide and Amide Compounds.

-A triphasic oxidation system, consisting of aqueous H 2 O 2 , amide, solid hydrotalcite as base catalyst, and anionic surfactant in dichloroethane, is examined on various olefins. Isobutyramide is found to be the most effective amide for these epoxidations. It is further found that only anionic surfactants like sodium dodecyl sulfate accelerate the epoxidation rate, whereas nonionic surfactants do not remarkably influence the epoxidation and cationic surfactants strongly inhibit the reaction. The oxidation system gives exclusively epoxides without other oxidation products. The epoxidations proceed stereospecifically with retention of the configuration of the double bonds and regioselectively if different types of double bonds are present in the molecule. -(YAMAGUCHI, KAZUYA; EBITANI, KOHKI;
