β¦ Synopsis
Hydrogen Diffusion in Sm 2 Fe 17 and Sm 2 Fe 14 Ga 3 Compounds.
-The substitution of gallium for iron greatly reduces the uptake and diffusion of hydrogen in the title compounds, established by magnetic after-effect (MAE) and thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS). Furthermore, under the same charging conditions in a high purity H 2 atmosphere (0.13 MPa, 570 K, 1 h) the Ga-free compound adsorbs hydrogen much more readily than the Ga-substituted compound. The hydrogen contents are determined to be Sm 2 Fe 17 H 5 and Sm 2 Fe 14 Ga 3 H 1.3 . The results are explained by the higher activation enthalpies for hydrogen diffusion in the Ga-substituted compounds.
