Hydration Kinetics of CaAl 2 O 4 Using Synchrotron Energy-Dispersive Diffraction. -The hydration process of pastes of CaAl 2 O 4 with a water to solid ratio of 0.4 at temp. ranging from 60 to 90 โ€ข C is followed by synchrotron EDD. The hydration rate increases with temp. according to a three-dimensional diffusion-controlled model. A solid state reaction mechanism is proposed that involves the formation of intermediate Ca 2 Al 2 O 5 โ€ข8H 2 O and final formation of Ca 3 Al 2 O 6 โ€ข6H 2 O. The degree of crystallinity of the intermediate product influences the overall reaction rate.
