✦ Synopsis

In the presence of H 2 O 2 /NaOH or tBu-O-OH the acetals (III), except (IIIc), undergo highly diastereoselective oxidation to the oxiranes (IV). The latter are versatile intermediates for the preparation of a variety of α-heterosubstituted carbonyl compounds like α-amino amides.
