โฆ Synopsis
High-Temperature Ionic Conduction in Multicomponent Solid Oxide Solutions Based on Zirconia.
-The ionic conductivity of ZrO 2 -CaO, ZrO 2 -Y 2 O 3 , and ZrO 2 -Ln 2 O 3 (Ln: rare earth) solid solutions is studied in the temp. range 1000-1600 โข C in terms of the parameter Pe', describing the relation between the partial ionic and the n-type electronic conductivity and being defined as p(O 2 ) at which both conductivities of the electrolyte are equal. Investigations of Pe' by the emf polarization and a thermodynamic emf method as a function of temp., radius and concentration of dopant, and preparation conditions show one to two orders lower Pe' values for ZrO 2 -Ln 2 O 3 solid solutions. Due to their high thermodynamical and phase stability and their low electronic conduction multi-component ZrO 2 -based solid solutions are shown to be promising electrolytes for e.g. high temperature sensors or fuel cells. -
