-The acylation of a variety of alcohols is effectively catalyzed by chlorotrimethylsilane. This reaction works well with primary, secondary, and allylic alcohols. However, elimination is observed with tertiary alcohols (VI). All of the optically active alcohols give the corresponding acetates with retention of configurations (e.g. (XVII) and (XIX)). -(KU-
