Fe(III) Mediated Oxidative Radical Cyclization of Cyclopropanone
Acetals.
-The formation of cyclopentane esters by the title reaction is studied by varying the reaction conditions (type of Fe(III) source, equivalents of Fe(III), reaction temperature, radical traps). Diastereoselectivities up to 92% are provided by cyclization of acetal (X) in the presence of Fe(NO 3 ) 3 and 1,4-cyclohexadiene as a hydrogen source. It is found that at least one equivalent of the Fe(III) source is required for complete conversion.
