โฆ Synopsis
Exploration of the Superconducting Properties of Y 3 Ba 5 Cu 8 O 18 with and without Ca Doping by Magnetic Measurements.
-Superconducting Y3Ba5Cu8O18 and Ca-doped Y3Ba5Ca2Cu8O18 are synthesized by the sol-gel method from dilute HNO3 solutions containing appropriate amounts of Y2O3, Ba(NO3)2, CuO, CaCO3, citric acid, and ethylene glycol (sintering of the obtained precursors at 890 and 900 ยฐC for 72 h in air, respectively). The superconducting transition temperature is lowered by about 6 K when Ca is added to the parent compound. The magnetic properties of the compounds and especially the effect of Ca doping on the critical current density are investigated by resistivity, DC magnetization (both against field and temperature), and AC susceptibility measurements. The critical current densities and flux pinning properties are much better for the Ca free compound. -(EKICIBIL*, A.;
