β¦ Synopsis
Electrochemistry of C82: Relationship to Metallofullerene Electrochemistry.
-Square-wave voltammograms obtained in pyridine solution for C82 indicate reduction in four one-electron steps prior to the onset of electrolyte decomposition. Comparison with literature data for the endohedral complexes La C82 and Y C82 allows interpretation of the electrochemistry of metallofullerenes in terms of the electronic structure of the fullerene cage. The relative easy reduction and oxidation of La C82 and Y C82 seems to be related to the presence of the third electron given up by La and Y. For this electron no significant contribution to the aromatic Ο stabilization of the fullerene is assumed. -(BURBANK,
