✦ Synopsis

Electrochemical Behavior of Magnesium Ions in the Equimolar CaCl2-NaCl Mixture at 550 • C. -Title studies performed by cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and chronopotentiometry show that Mg(II) and Mg(0) are the stable oxidation states of Mg in this mixture. The reduction of MgCl2 on a W electrode takes place in a single step and is quasireversible. Diffusion is the only mass transport mechanism of the Mg(II) species towards the electrode.
