Abstract
The reaction of ketal‐functionalized nitroalkanes with α‐oxoaldehydes, promoted by Amberlyst A21 and followed by acidic treatment of the mixture with Amberlyst 15, avoids isolation of the nitroaldol intermediates and leads directly to formation of the desired furan derivatives.
