β¦ Synopsis
Effect of Milling of V 2 O 5 on the Local Environment of Vanadium as Studied by Solid-State 51 V NMR and Complementary Methods. -Milling of V 2 O 5 in a ball mill increases the surface area from 7 to a maximum of 32 m 2 /g. Simultaneously, XRD line broadening suggests a reduction of the microcrystallites. A color change during milling indicates oxygen loss and Raman spectroscopy provides evidence for the formation of shear structures such as V 6 O 13 . Most of the vanadium atoms in milled V 2 O 5 are in the V 5+ state, the concentrations of V 4+ and V 3+ are small (increase with milling time).
