Effect of a Cobalt(II) Complex on the Radical Reaction of Vinyl Type Sulfides. A "Radico-Catalysis". -Cobaloxime(II) evidently accelerates the intramolecular radical attack of an alkyl radical on a vinyl type sulfide [→(II), (VIII)] whilst the reaction with the Ph 3 SnH/AIBN system favors products derived from Smiles rearrangement [cf. (V), (VI)], addition and reduction products [cf. (IV), (IX)]. Reasonable reaction mechanisms are illustrated.
