Direct Preparation of Saccharin Skeletons from N-Methyl(omethyl)arenesulfonamides with (Diacetoxyiodo)arenes.

-In view of their potential as biologically active agents, the saccharin derivatives (II) and (IV) are prepared from various arenesulfonamides under conditions A). The reactions of (I) and (IIIb) proceed in good to moderate yields whereas unsubstituted (IIIa) and the N-alkyl derivatives (IIIc)-(IIIe) give less efficient or no conversion. -(TOGO, H.;
