β¦ Synopsis
Part 4. Synthesis of Compounds Containing Vicinal gem-Dinitro Groups. -Nitration of Ξ²-methyl-Ξ³,Ξ³-dinitroketones (III) and (V) proceeds by C-C bond cleavage to afford compounds (IV) and (VI), resp., containing two vicinal gem-dinitro groups. The tetranitrohexanoic acid (VI) is used for the synthesis of several further polynitro compounds, e.g. tetranitropentylamine (VIII), tetranitropentanol (XI) or the dinitrodihydrooxazine N-oxide (XII). The reaction of the amine (VIII) with sodium nitrite in the presence of concentrated hydrochloric acid unexpectedly proceeds mainly by nitration instead of diazotization. -(STEPANOVA, O.
