Deoxyiminoalditols from Aldonic Acids. Part 6. Preparation of the Four Stereoisomeric 4-Amino-3-hydroxypyrrolidines from Bromodeoxytetronic Acids. Discovery of a New α-Mannosidase Inhibitor.

-Starting from the D-erythronate derived ester (I), a convenient synthesis of 4-amino-3-hydroxypyrrolidines such as (IV) is detailed. Preliminary testing reveals a significant inhibition of α-mannosidase for compound (IV).
