Abstract

Reactions of the title alkenyl thioethers with arenesulfenyl chlorides in CHCl~3~ affords products of addition at the exocyclic double bond, while analogous reactions in acetic acid in the presence of LiClO~4~ are accompanied by an intramolecular electrophilic cyclization involving the N^7^ atom.
