Crystal Structures of the Tellurates Pb3Fe2Te2O12 and Pb2CoTeO6.
-Single crystals of the title compounds are prepared by reaction of PbO and Fe2O3 or CoO in a TeO2 flux (corundum crucible, air, 730 β’ C, 48 h). Pb3Fe2Te2O12 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group Cc with Z = 4. Its structure is characterized by a network of corner-and edge-sharing O6 octahedra centered by Fe3+ and Te6+ in a disordered manner. The structure exhibits large cavities which are occupied by the Pb2+ ions. Pb2CoTeO6 has the tetragonal elpasolithe type structure,
