Crystal Structure of Azafullerene (C59N)2.
-A synchroton X-ray powder diffraction study of sublimed (C59N)2 reveals the presence of a superlattice due to the molecular dimerization. Solid azafullerene crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/m between 278 and 500 K and exhibits diamagnetic and insulating properties. The stability of the dimer is confirmed by density-functional calculations which reveal two units linked by a long C-C bond.
