β¦ Synopsis
1999 structure structure (solids and liquids) D 2000 18 -006 Crystal Structure of an Unusual Polytype: 7H-Ba 7 Nb 4 MoO 20 .
-The new cation-deficient hexagonal perovskite-like oxide Ba 7 Nb 4 MoO 20 , synthesized by solid state reaction of stoichiometric amounts of BaCO 3 , MoO 3 and Nb 2 O 5 , crystallizes in the hexagonal space group P3m1 with Z = 1. Its units cell can be described as an ordered intergrowth of structural units corresponding to the 12R and the palmierite polytypes along the c-axis. Both types of blocks are isolated through cationic vacancies giving rise to a layered structure. The existence of two cationic empty sites per unit cell is probably the reason that the unusual 7H polytype is adopted. -(GARCIA-GONZALEZ, E.; PARRAS,
