1998 structure structure (solids and liquids) D 2000 28 -014 Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties of CeV 2 Al 20 and CeCr 2 Al 20 . -Neutron diffraction studies on CeV 2 Al 20 (I) and CeCr 2 Al 20

(II), obtained by arc melting of the corresponding elements show that these compounds possess a cubic ZrZn 22 type structure (space group Fd3m). This structure is characterized by a single rare earth site and four none-rare earth sites. Compound (I) appears to be diamagnetic whereas (II) is weakly paramagnetic. From these data it is derived that Ce is tetravalent in both compounds.
