β¦ Synopsis
Crystal Growth and Characterizations of ErRh 3 B 2 .
-The successful growth of single crystals by the flux method using molten Cu as solvent enables reinvestigation of the structure of ErRh 3 B 2 by single-crystal XRD. The compound (monoclinic, C2/m, Z = 2) is isomorphic with ErIr 3 B 2 . The XPS analysis gives evidence for a weak metal-boron bonding which indicates that B acts as electron donor. TG/DTA performed in the temp. range 20 to 1200 β’ C in air, shows that the oxidation of ErRh 3 B 2 starts at 373 β’ C and leads to formation of the mixed phase ErBO 3 + Rh at weight gain of 15.44%. For the (001) and (100) faces of the crystals a Vickers hardness of 11.3-12.0

The floating zone growth of magneto-optical crystal YFeO 3 has been investigated. The polycrystalline feed rod was prepared by a pressure of 250MPa and sintering at about 1500Β°C. A crack-free YFeO 3 single crystal has been successfully grown. The crystal preferred to crystallize along <100> directio
## Abstract Transparent semiconducting Ξ²βGa~2~O~3~ single crystals were grown by the Czochralski method from an iridium crucible under a dynamic protective atmosphere to control partial pressures of volatile species of Ga~2~O~3~. Transparent and nearly colorless ferroelectric-ferroelastic Ξ²β²-Tb 2 (MoO 4 ) 3 (TMO) single crystals have been grown by the Czochralski (CZ) method. The single crystal structure was investigated by X-ray powder diffraction and was shown to be a single phase with the structure similar as the Ξ²β²-Gd 2
