Crystal Chemistry of NpNi5 Compound.

-The structure of NpNi5, prepared by arc melting in He atmosphere, is studied by powder XRD techniques. Samples annealed in vacuum at 1473 K adopt the hexagonal D2d CaCu5-type structure and are isostructural with ThNi5 and PuNi5. On the basis of the lattice parameters and the apparent radius of Np in NpNi5, Np is supposed to be tetravalent. The apparent valence states for Np and other actinoids in actinoid-Ni5-alloys and the variation in cell volumes for known actinoid-and lanthanoid-Ni5 compounds are discussed. -(AKABORI, M.;
