Condensation of Acetylnaphthols with Trifluoro-and Trichloroacetonitriles. The First Example of Ring-Chain Isomerism in the Aromatic β-Hydroxyoxoenamine Series. -Whilst the condensation of 2-acetylnaphth-1-ol (VI) with trihaloacetonitriles (II) provides the expected open-chain enaminones ( VII), reaction of 1-acetylnaphth-2-ol (I) with nitriles (II) affords a mixture of the expected open-chain (cf.
