Concise Synthesis of the Cell Cycle Inhibitor Demethoxyfumitremorgin C.

-The imine (III) reacts with the proline derivative (IV) via an acyliminium Pictet-Spengler condensation to give the tetrahydro-Ξ²-carbolines (V) and (VI), thus providing a rapid access to the title compound (VII) and its epimer.
