β¦ Synopsis
Catalysis: A Study of Chiral Amino Thiol Ligands.
-A series of new chiral sulfur-nitrogen chelate ligands (I) is prepared from L-valine and investigated in asymmetric catalysis. The ligands are mentioned to be ineffective in asymmetric conjugate addition reactions and desymmetrization of meso-epoxides. Addition of diethylzinc to aromatic aldehydes proceeds with up to 82% e.e. in the presence of ligands (I) and is investigated in detail. The results support the hypothesis that a potentially stereogenic nitrogen atom can exert more efficient enantioinduction.
