Ba2ErCl7.

-The title compound is prepared by chlorination of a Er2O3/BaCl2 mixture at 1173 K in the presence of carbon powder. Single crystals are obtained by the zone-melting technique. Ba2ErCl7 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/a with Z = 4. ErCl7 and BaCl9 polyhedra form a network structure. The structure can be considered as a stuffed Co2Si-type structure because the arrangement of the Ba and Er atoms is isostructural with the Co2Si alloy.
